Nice idea but it just didn't transition in and out of it well imo. The Monroe fantasy just didn't sit in that scene quite right. The scene with Erica was a pretty dark tonal shift that went on for too long. When they were in the fun house I was expecting lots of fun combinations. Just jarring at times in BOP.Ī lot of the action lacked coordination. Like they'd committed to the r rating and wanted to use the f word as much as possible because that's what people want. I've no issue with swearing at all but a lot of the swearing felt very forced. I only watched them once but they pretty much spoiled the best bits of the movie. But in the spirit of this thread here's some of the things that didn't really work for me.
#CASSANDRA CAIN BIRDS OF PREY MOVIE#
I think the movie was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Honestly crossbow killer deserves more screentime than harley, in fact if this movie is called bird of prey shouldn’t they focused on their origin? This is just harley quinn movie but bird of prey as side charactersĮdit: reading some comments down below i realized R-rated was not needed really, take out R-rated and it serves no purpose at all, reminds me when lucifer show got cancelled by fox but then revived by Netflix and I thought we would see a darker take of lucifer because netflix does some dark shows, when i saw new season i realized why the fuck should they change? It will confuse new comers and im glad they didn’t do 180 and stuck to same style, harley didn’t swear in suicide sauad and she used some of her psychological study on her squad in one scene, all of the sudden she cusses and break bones and is all crazy mad If you know characters has powers but your budget has limits then create unique excuses or just normal ones, like why the fuck couldn’t black canary uses her voice TILL finale? That would have saved alot of time, or you know use it when thugs were coming to to get bird of preyĬassandra is not cassandra for some reason The setup is super long and you wont get buildup and climax until somewhere around 40 min which is super long and made me check the time to see how long have i been watching because i felt like its been hours I really cant hep when people notice stuff and mostly you never see any of these girls friends with man or males :/ the lady cop being mocked by male or male takes the credit, or that harley was the one who came up with ideas but joker stoles her ideas We really don’t get that many female-directed, R-rated action movies about other women, so I’m interested in seeing how the intersection of female empowerment is portrayed in how the film allows them to be brutal fighters just as much as male heroes-especially since this movie features several of DC’s best female fighters. The fact black mask dies in the end being a wasted character

As a sometimes- Sucker Punch-apologist, one of the things I felt that movie needed was a more grounded female gaze. With the knowledge that this is an R-rated vision, I’m interested to see how the violence and fighting will lend to the story. “So I went in with, not with confidence, but at least a sense that I belonged in the room, that somehow magically in terms of timing and luck that this opportunity was open to me and I was definitely going to make the best of it.” Instead of a traditional sizzle reel, Yan said that she instead “created my own version that thematically and tonally conveyed what you would feel (in my movie).” The script was written by Christina Hodson, a half-Taiwanese writer who wrote the upcoming Bumblebee movie.

In discussing how she beat out the other directors up for the Birds of Prey film, Yan told the U.S.-China Entertainment Summit that she “did homework” and that she couldn’t put the script down once she started reading, and enjoyed the dark humor and themes of female empowerment in it.
